Next-Generation Data Scientists to Test Their Skills in Real-World AI Applications
OTTAWA, ON, May 27, 2025 — MindBridge, the leader in AI-powered financial decision intelligence, is launching a Data Science Challenge in partnership with Carleton University. Aimed at fostering the next generation of data scientists, the competition invites graduate and undergraduate students in a technical discipline (e.g., data science, computer science, science, engineering) to solve a real-world financial analytics problem using advanced techniques in data science and artificial intelligence.
The initiative is part of MindBridge’s ongoing commitment to support the academic community and nurture emerging talent poised to shape the future of the finance industry.
“Today’s students are tomorrow’s industry leaders,” said Robin Grosset, Chief Technology Officer at MindBridge. “Through this challenge, we’re offering aspiring data scientists a chance to engage with meaningful, real-world problems, demonstrate their ingenuity, and accelerate their path into the AI and finance sectors.”
The competition begins on Wednesday, May 28, with a MindBridge-hosted lecture on outlier analysis, an advanced technique for detecting unusual patterns in financial data. Immediately following the session, participants will receive access to the challenge dataset and materials.
Over the next eight weeks, participants will write code and build solutions aimed at uncovering financial irregularities within the dataset – mirroring the kinds of analytical work performed in cutting-edge financial audits and risk assessments.
“This challenge represents an exciting opportunity for our students to apply what they’ve learned in the classroom to complex, real-world data problems,” said Olga Baysal, Director of the Institute for Data Science at Carleton University. “Collaborating with an industry leader like MindBridge gives our students firsthand experience in the practical application of data science, while also helping them build the skills and confidence they need to become tomorrow’s innovators in the finance and technology sectors.”
